A stellar cast headlines the upcoming Theatre Northeast †production of the celebrated and beloved comedy/drama†Steel Magnolias†by Robert Harling. The show runs February 26, 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. and March 1 at 2:05 p.m. in the on stage theatre of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Northeast Texas Community College.

Warm-hearted and crackling with wit, wisdom and abundant charm and humor,†Steel Magnolias†has been described as the quintessential story of family, friendship and steely Southern sisterhood.

?Working with this wonderful cast has been such a blessing. The play is one of the finest examples that I know of a true ensemble play. Each character is so vividly written?each relationship so essential to the whole?it is really a marvel to behold," Director Douglas Hoppock, said.

The story examines the love between a mother and her child and the bond that can be so unbreakable between true and trusted friends.

"The humor?the courage?the intelligence of these six marvelous women is revealed as they desperately strive to live a life of happiness and hope. I believe that we have a splendid cast that promises to bring all of these memorable characters to life," Hoppock said.

The play features Distinguished Theatre Northeast Alumni Kathryn Comer, of Mount Pleasant, as Shelby; Lauren Shortnacy, of Mount Pleasant, as Ouiser; and Marcy Logan, of Omaha, as Truvie.
