A Northeast Texas Community College sophomore recently defeated a senior university student to earn the right to represent regional honors students on the board of the Great Plains Honors Council (GPHC). Rachel Jordan, an NTCC Presidential Scholar, bested Ashley Donovan from Oklahoma State University for the position of Student Representative of the GPHC.
The Great Plains Honors Council†(GPHC)†is one of six regional associations of honors colleges and programs that make up the greater National Collegiate Honors Council†(NCHC).† It includes eighty honors entities, from Nebraska to Texas, and east, from Missouri, to Arkansas.
Since the beginning of the GPHC in 1975, University honors students generally have won these elections.† Jordan?s scholarly rÈsumÈ, however, neutralized some of the traditional advantages of†the†university honors students.† Jordan won a 2017 State of Texas Caldwell Award for her article on modern Texas art.†The editorial board of†Touchstone†recently accepted her work for publication this spring.†Jordan has presented her scholarship and film work at many venues, and will be presenting twice in Atlanta at this year?s NCHC, where the GPHC will also be meeting.
?Rachel Jordan, who made it to state in high school tennis, has energized and stimulated the students, faculty, and programs of our college.† She is a 2017 Coca Cola Leader of Promise, and Texas Star award winner.† She has been a mainstay of our efforts with film, scholarship, and community relations.†She†even placed in an honors dance contest. Jordan is a graduate of Ore City High School.† Her parents are Tanya and Griffin.
