The Northeast Police Academy at Northeast Texas Community College is now accepting applications for its upcoming police academies. Both the Fast-Track day and evening academy programs will begin classes January 19.

The evening academy, which is for continuing education credit only, meets from 5-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and every first and third Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This program is designed for working adults who may not have time to complete the daytime academy.

The ?Fast-Track? Academy is a day program, densely concentrated with material which, when completed,††the cadet will receive 37 college credit hours in addition to being qualified to become a certified peace officer.

?The evening academy is a great way for dedicated people to train for a career in law enforcement with minimal disruption to their current schedule,? Richard Jones, Northeast Police Academy Director, said.

Both the day and evening academies provide the training needed to prepare them for certification as a Basic Peace Officer in the state of Texas.

The Northeast Police Academy is licensed by the Texas Commission On Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Students will receive hands-on training to ensure that graduates possess the required skills, training, experience and self-confidence to succeed in a career in law enforcement. Those enrolled in the evening academy will receive continuing education credit through NTCC, which is not transferable toward a certificate or degree.

In order to be considered for acceptance into the Northeast Police Academy, students must be a high school or GED graduate, be at least 21 years of age, have not been convicted of an offense above a Class C misdemeanor and must have no felony convictions. Students who are under 21 may be admitted if they have completed 60 hours of college instruction or an associate?s degree. Students must also complete an application, psychological exam, physical exam and a criminal history background check.
