Students may benefit from the numerous services offered by the Academic Advising and Recruiting department.

Advisors are available to assist students as they make plans and decisions in various phases of their educational development.

Services include assistance in the following areas:

Minter, Ja'Quacy

Ja’Quacy Minter graduated from Mount Pleasant high school and was a member of the Upward Bound Program here at NTCC! He then went on to earn his Bachelor’s in Communication Studies with a focus in rhetoric, public memory and queer parenthood, from The University of Alabama. Before working as a College Navigator here at NTCC, Ja’Quacy spent four years working as a private Speech & Debate Consultant for high school students in Texas and Alabama.

Watson, Lori

Lori attended Texarkana College and Texas A&M-Texarkana where she received her BSIS in teacher education in 1994 and her M.Ed in 2009. She was a teacher for 29 years in several area districts: Pewitt, Pittsburg, Simms and Texarkana. Lori’s daughter graduated from Texas A&M- Texarkana with her BS in English and is now a teacher at MPISD. Lori’s son graduated from LaTech with his BSIS and is now working in the gaming industry. She has one dog and two cats who keep her company. She enjoys live music, concerts, reading, yard work, adventures and country living.

Flores, Paula

Paula graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and took part in the Upward Bound program at NTCC. She then went on to earn her bachelor's in Kinesiology & Sports Studies with an emphasis in Interdisciplinary studies at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Before working as a College Navigator at NTCC, Paula spent a year coaching cross-country and track at Mount Pleasant ISD. Paula wants to help more first-generation students pursue higher education as part of her mission to give back to the community.

Eddy, Sheila

Advisor for the following disciplines: Student Athletes, Special Populations, General Studies, Art, Communications, Theater, Education, English, Government, History, Music, Physical Education, Human Performance, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, and Spanish.

Davis, Cali

Cali is a College Navigator who attended Northeast Texas Community College following her graduation from Pittsburg High School. During her time at NTCC, Cali earned an Associate’s Degree of Arts in Teaching, with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education. Cali then transferred to Texas A&M University – Texarkana at NTCC where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Cali taught in the public school system for 3 and a half years before beginning her career at NTCC as an Advisor.

Recruits and advises students concerning their career goals and academic requirements. Works with college faculty and other community college and university counselors to remain current with transferability of courses, majors, and admissions requirements. This person must be knowledgeable of customer service principles and practices and have good interpersonal, decision-making, planning and organizational skills. 

Bachelors degree + 2 years related experience required/ Masters preferred.
