Culinary Arts to host public dinner Feb. 20

The Northeast Texas Community College Culinary Arts Program will host its second special Dinner Night of the semester on Thursday, Feb. 20. This event will be held at the NTCC Culinary Arts School in historic downtown Pittsburg and is open to the public.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and seating will begin at 6 p.m. The meal is first-come-first-served and no reservations will be accepted.†The cost is $10 per person.†Seating is limited.

Theatre Northeast presents Butterflies Are Free

Butterflies Are Free, by Leonard Gershe, opens February 27 at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the Northeast Texas Community College campus. In this Tony Award-winning comedy, a young blind man and the free-spirited girl-next-door discover the values of self-reliance and dependence.

The play, performed by Theatre Northeast, centers on Don Baker, a Greenwich Village newcomer who struggles to create an independent life for himself apart from his family in Scarsdale.

Eagles softball sweeps Angelina College

The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles softball team added another two notches to their belt Monday afternoon, sweeping Angelina College by scores of 9-3 in the first game and 10-4 in the second.

Freshman pitcher Hailey Dixon led NTCC to their first win of the day. Angelina college scored the first two runs of the game in the fourth inning and held the Eagles at bay until the sixth, when NTCC scored five runs.

Eagles softball dominates Ranger College in four-game series

The Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) Eagles softball team dominated Ranger College during Friday and Saturday?s four game series, improving their record to 6-2 for the season.



† † † †The first two innings of game one on Friday were stalemates, with sophomore infielder Chelcey Faglie driving in the first and only runs of the game in the bottom of the third. Freshman pitcher, Hadley Dixon, maintained the lead for the Eagles, who won the game 2-0.

NTCC Rodeo kicks off spring season

The Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) Rodeo Team competed in the first rodeo of the spring season February 7 and 8 at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens.†The Rodeo Team had a very successful showing, with four students placing in individual events allowing the team get closer to its goal of sending representatives to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in June.††

February 11 weather closure

All Northeast Texas Community College locations will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11 due to winter weather. Food services WILL †be available to students who live on campus. The Mt. Pleasant Daily Tribune political forum that was scheduled for tonight is also cancelled.

NTCC will continue to monitor the weather and will announce any further closures by 6 a.m. tomorrow if necessary.

The NTCC Eagles baseball and softball games scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed.

NTCC holds reception for Bill Priefert

Northeast Texas Community College celebrated the service of Bill Priefert, a long-time member of the NTCC board of Trustees, with a retirement reception on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Priefert, of Mount Pleasant, recently retired from the board after 11 years of service.
